No need to panic if you see a rusted frame. There are several solutions that can be used as funds are available. Can select a temporary with the funds that are not expensive, or select funds expended a little more expensive, but with “bonus”: can change the model and the appropriate size with an area and function space.

Frames and shutters / doors from wood that has been porous due to termites, must be quickly replaced, before the damage spreads to other parts. But to replace it, do not let loose and throw home! Because the replacement is going to affect the construction of the sill. Way that seemed easy in the reality also requires funds that are not small.

What if the replacement should be done immediately, but the limited funds available? There are simple ways to save is temporary but the blocks are very porous. While raising funds to replace the frame as a whole, another way can be applied.

Replacing the sills or doors / windows can be done by replacing the model without changing the size of the old frame. In this way, the old railings can still be used again. Funds needed would not be too large, for not buying a new trellis. Try to compare, how much money should we spend if we replace the old frame size.

To find out what kind of replacement should be done, should be seen to what extent the damage. Damaged frames only, or leaves, or even both? Hollow beams which part? How many blocks of wood to be replaced? Should be considered carefully, in order to achieve maximum results with minimum cost possible.

Cut and discard

Now, what corrective actions, if only a rusted frame? Turns out easily. Frame does not need to be released from the wall, simply cut at the very porous and replaced with a block of wood the same size. New beams were then placed on a porous blocks were used.

Cutting wood like this can be done if only a few blocks of porous frame. Part of the beam is cut and discarded. But remember, the wood is cut is not exactly a part that is porous, but must be added approximately 5 cm. Instead, choose a good timber and cut according to need. Wood pieces are then mounted on the frame and nailed a long time. Furthermore, this part ready made finishing.

Now, what if one of the sill beam rods are hollow? Means a damaged beam on the frame it needs to be replaced. Replacement of single stem on the frame is not as simple beams cut off part of the beam. To do this, the beams are porous and its angkur is necessary to issue from the unit’s frame. After that, clean this part of the splinters of rotten wood. Then put the new block which had been prepared, complete with the angkur. Finally, trim back wall bordering the beam frames with mortar.

This method can be used if the number of blocks that must be replaced no more than 25% of the sill. Suppose that the beam must be replaced more than 25%, then the better frame is replaced in its entirety.

(Note: Angkur is the addition of wood on the frame size that is inserted into the wall as the lock frame)

Just replaced the model

What if the frame still in good condition but the leaves have been damaged? This can be overcome by replacing it with the leaves of the old model. Model leaves may be substituted provided by same size with the old. But if the frame is damaged more than 25% and leaves still in good condition, meaning that frames must be replaced. However, changing the frame of the model means also changing the model leaf (though not necessarily replace the existing grille).

For example, a glass window glass equipped with openings at the top. First, railings installed in the hole and opening windows. Now, after a model change, the old railings can still be installed in its place. While such openings in the top of the window glass alias no longer open. Shutters that had sectional rectangular pattern, for example, now used as shutters without a separator. These are still able to take advantage of the old railings. Size sills, shutters, and the trellis does not need to be replaced; models are replaced.

In essence, the replacement model of the door frame / window, it can be done with minimum effort possible replacement of the existing material. Eventually, this will minimize the costs to be incurred.

Angkur must remain attached

Although the beam is cut and replaced, the angkur of doors / windows and equipment used. It would be better if they are replacing the deck intact. Although the beam is broken only 20% of the overall length of the beam, the beam would be better if the frame was removed and replaced single stem. In addition to ensuring that termites do not really exist in the girder, as well as to ensure the reinforcement frame remained intact and strong enough.

Beam which is new and ready angkur pairs are given, then mounted on the frame of the old, which is still attached to the wall. Notches on the new wood that has been given angkur must enter into a long wooden indentation. Make sure the new wood was installed properly and correctly, and will not change the location again. Then, a new masonry mounted in place. Leave it for several days, so quite hard masonry mortar and block new frame does not move anymore. Safety beams can be removed and made finishing.

May be modified size

Okay to change the frame size, but the consequences and the changing leaves the trellis. That is, funds expended will be quite large. In planning a new frame back, needs to consider measures which will be given a frame wall, function room, and room size.

Hopefully, door / window can become the new architectural elements that considers aspects of building physics. Aperture shape can be changed in accordance with the desire, like a door opening with 180 º hinges can be replaced by a sliding door or window with hinges at the top can now use the side or bottom hinge. However, that still need to be considered is the air circulation through them.

Sills which changed size and shape can be more flexible in its planning. However, should consider the size of a wall that will be placed where the door / window. Do not let the frames and shutters / doors are booked with a certain size, it can not be installed because of its size too big. Make sure in advance the size of the existing wall before planning a door / window desired. The new frame size is also not too small compared to the existing living space. This is because air and space requires sufficient sunlight.
